My reddit experience
I hate reddit and reddit hates me. This was interesting for me. I joined reddit.com about a year ago just after we launched itsa. Froggy made a logo for this silly contest they were having, and we were out and about promoting itsa; it all seemed fun. Frog got an honorable mention for the logo if anyone remembers.
Reddit is a social network site where links on the internet are featured. Viewers vote the links up or down based on whether they liked the article or not. Link submitters (the reddit users) are all grappling for a spot on the main page. The users are able to comment on the articles on reddit itself and comments are voted up and down in this section as well. This all seemed really boring to me, and the comments I had read seemed boring and so I never went back. Reddit is all about people whining and arguing about world news and pretty much anything else they can find to whine and argue about. Not really my scene.
Now it’s a year later and Froggy asks me to go back to reddit, why I figured; to make comments I’m guessing, submit some of the original content I am making for itsa every once in a while and so forth, so like a good little wife I do this. I got back to my reddit account 12 days ago and I made a few reddit comments.
A few days later I submitted a few more comments on reddit. While I was there, I checked on my other comments which had neither been voted up nor down nor replied to, oh well. I said hmph and came back home to itsa rather than read all the strife and whining going on at reddit.
Back to reddit. Still no one’s listening to me. No one cares what I had to say. No one has laughed at any of my witty responses. Oh well. I’m starting to get angry at reddit. Why are all these people ignoring me? I submitted a few more comments and looked around for a pay per comment button. Nothing.
Grudgingly back to reddit. Still complete ignore-ation. This time I decided I would also submit an interesting link to a picture. I cared not that it was a picture showing the google results of a reddit whining search, that I lovingly photoshopped myself. Considering reddits site content I had been perusing over the past week I figured all those whiners would flock immediately to my self reddit link cleverly entitled: Who says there are whiners on reddit? Two days later, Nothing. I am not accustomed to being ignored; I don’t like it and I don’t like reddit.
12 days later, (today) I bitterly returned to reddit. I was only really going there to wallow in self pity as I just knew once again that no one had responded or bothered to even acknowledge my existence. I already felt like a worthless, un-noticed, witless underdog who clearly wasn’t good enough to hang around with the comment guru’s of the reddit world and apparently I was looking for more punishment. But today I was loaded up with a good comic pic from the itsa comics on the chris brown and rhianna fiasco. I just knew that out of the 10,000 people who are clicking through reddit, there’s got to be at least 1 of them willing to stop by and take a laugh at Rhianna and Chris. I was hopeful. Off I went. Sure enough, right as rain I had no comment karma points, no responses, no replies, no mail, no friend requests, nothing but the cold blank stare of a reddit shun.
With a deep breath, I went to submit my cool comic link. This time I wasn’t leaving until I got a reply. Froggy I called over to him, could you please go and reply to my reddit post, “sure hon.â€
Froggy goes to look at my reddits and we discovered that my reddits are Invisible! Reddit has tricked me into thinking that they are showing my comments to the world, but meanwhile, they are only showing them to me!
We confirm this through snags* of my comments being there while I am logged in. and not being there when I am not. Frog is not able to see them when he is logged in. This is not such a big deal to me because as I’ve said earlier, I don’t really care for the reddit site. However, this did get me to wondering, how many other people are just making comments that are not being seen? They just go through their little reddit lives being ignored and thinking they don’t matter. While they do this they read the comments of the reddit guru’s that suggest reddit consists of the views of the people who participate on their site. This is absolute NON truth. I am a member of their site, my comments are not racist or violate any of their protocals, yet they are not visible to anyone but me (and my snags). I have been a member there for over a year, it says so on my profile and trust me when I say there no option around suggesting I have my comments on invisible mode.
Reddit is biased. Â I have proof. Why do they pretend they show what people are contributing, when they have not shown what I contributed; their content is censored. Reddit does not show the views of the general public; it’s staged. It irks me to no end to realize that apparent claimed political activists and intellectuals and what not are all bantering about on this site with what? pansies posing as the general public?
At least when you post something here at itsachat you are not tricked into thinking its being shown to everyone who reads it, when its not. Â There is room for more than one opinion at itsachat.com and apparently there isn’t at reddit.

What kinda nazi site is reddit? Bastids
(0 points)Hey there.
I’ve used reddit for about a year too. I’m by no means a power user. I’ve never had any problem getting people to respond to or see my comments from day 1. The fact that they would respond quickly made it kind of addictive If they really have no reason to know or censor you, it’s probably a technical issue rather than a conspiracy. Did you try contacting the reddit people or making a new username to test it?
I really like reddit. It’s one of my only links to the US since I expatriated.
(0 points)Since you expatriated? Who, What, When, Where, and Why? Is there a good story there? Please feel free to post it on the writers avenue. We would love to hear your story!
