Freezing temperatures hit England this morning.
Although it rained and snowed overnight, there was also a very heavy ground frost.
I went out to my car this morning at 7:50 am to find it frozen solid, even the doors wouldn’t open. After tugging at all the doors and giving up I tried the boot, that creaked and cracked and I managed to open that.
I had to take the shelf out of the car, and I climbed into the boot, and managed to reach the de-icer that was sitting on the back seat. I sprayed that around the door frame on the driver’s door and front passenger door. Left it for about 5 mins, whilst I made phone calls to let people know that myself and the colleague I pick up in the morning will be late, at work I got the voicemail, which meant that no-one else had managed to get in yet. I still couldn’t get the doors to open L.
I decided that I needed to get the car warmed up if I had any chance of getting the doors open, so youve guessed it, I took the shelf out of the boot again, pushed the back seats down (that’s probably a good thing about having a hatchback) and climbed into the boot, over the back seats to the driver’s seat. Once I managed to get the steering lock off the steering wheel, I was then able to sit down and get the engine started. I got the engine started and the doors still wouldn’t open, I suddenly started to feel very claustrophobic. About 5 mins later I pushed on the driver’s door, and it opened. I got out and sprayed more de-icer over the windscreen, which to be quite honest didn’t even touch the cm thick ice. I had to get the scraper out and chip away at the ice. Eventually my car was ice free and I was able to travel to work. I managed to pull out of my parking space at 8:35am, 5 minutes after I was supposed to start work!
